Other Notes | In October 1934 Bob McDermott from Royton was invited by Dorothea Haworth to teach the dance to members of Manley Country Dance club as they wanted to include a Morris team in their dance displays.
Bob had been Conductor of a team in Royton before WW1 and later danced No 1 in the team led by Jimmy Coleman when Maud Karpeles persuaded members of both teams to come together so that she could collect the Royton dance in the late 1920s. He had a different style and approach to Jimmy Coleman so the dance in Manley developed along different lines from the Royton dance with the introduction of many new stationary figures which had never been danced in Royton. |
